　　There is no exact definition of the word happiness. Happy people are happy for all sorts of reasons. The key is not wealth or physical well-being, since we find beggars, patients and so-called failures who are extremely happy.

　　Being happy is a sort of unexpected dividend. But staying happy is an accomplishment, a triumph of soul and character; it is not selfish to struggle for it. It is indeed, a duty to ourselves and others.

　　快樂(lè)是一種意料不到的收獲。而能保持快樂(lè)則是一項(xiàng)成就，也是靈魂與品性的勝利。努力追求快樂(lè)算不上自私。事實(shí)上，追求快樂(lè)不僅是對(duì)我們自己、也是對(duì)別人的一種責(zé)任。

　　Being unhappy is like an infectious disease; it causes people to shrink away from the sufferer. He soon frnds himself alone, miserable and embittered.There is, however, a cure so simple as to seem, at first glance, ridiculous: If you don't feel happy, pretend to be!

　　悶悶不樂(lè)就像一種傳染病，染上這種病的人大家都唯恐避之不及。這種人很快就會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)自己感到孤獨(dú)、痛苦和難過(guò)。但是，有種很簡(jiǎn)單的讓自己快樂(lè)的方法，乍看起來(lái)你會(huì)覺(jué)得它似乎荒謬可笑，那就是：如果你覺(jué)得不快樂(lè)，就假裝快樂(lè)吧!

　　It works. Before long you will that instead of repelling people, you attract them, You discover how deeply rewarding it is to be the center of wider and wider circles of good will.

　　這個(gè)方法很奏效。不久你就會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)自己非但不會(huì)使人反感，反而還能吸引別人。你會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)，能夠成為廣結(jié)善緣的中心人物是多么值得的`事!

　　Then the make-believe becomes a realityr. You possess the secret of peace of mind and can forget yourself in being of service to others,

　　于是，原本裝扮的快樂(lè)就變成了真正的快樂(lè)。你擁有心境平和的秘訣而又能忘我地服務(wù)他人。

　　Being happy once it is realized as a duty and established as a habit opens doors into unimaginable gardens thronged with grateful friends.

　　—旦快樂(lè)被當(dāng)作一種責(zé)任并成為一種習(xí)慣的時(shí)候，它就會(huì)開(kāi)啟大門(mén)，引領(lǐng)我們進(jìn)入無(wú)法想象的花園中，里面云集著滿懷感激的朋友。
