1.懊悔；因...而遺憾[+v-ing][+that]
I regret that you see it like that.

2.痛惜；哀悼；思念
I regret his death.
我對(duì)他的逝世痛惜不已。
3.為...抱歉，遺憾[+to-v][+that]
I regret to say that I am unable to help you.

regret的用法及解釋
1、表示“遺憾”“抱歉”，是及物動(dòng)詞，不要按漢語(yǔ)意思在其后連用介詞about或for。如：
假若你現(xiàn)在就走，你會(huì)后悔的。
誤：If you go now,you will regret about[for]it.
正：If you go now,you will regret it.
2、表示很遺憾地做某事，其后要接不定式；能這樣用的不定式不多，主要是to say,to tell,to inform等，此時(shí)句子主語(yǔ)一般是第一人稱，且regret通常用現(xiàn)在時(shí)。如：
I regret to say that you have failed your exam.我很遺憾地告訴你，你考試不及格。
We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you the job.我們遺憾地通知你，我們沒法給你這份工作。
3、表示后悔或遺憾做過某事，其后通常接動(dòng)名詞，且動(dòng)名詞可用一般式或完成式。如：
He regretted doing[having done]it.他后悔做了此事。
I regret spending[having spent]so much money.我很后悔花了這么多錢。
比較下面兩句：
I regret to say that I cannot come.很抱歉，我不能來(lái)了。
I regret saying that I cannot come.我后悔說(shuō)過我不能來(lái)。
注意，若句中含有具體的過去時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)，則以用動(dòng)名詞的一般式表示已發(fā)生的動(dòng)作。如：
I regret going there yesterday.我后悔昨天去了那兒。
偶爾也接不定式的完成式表示后悔做過的事，但在現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)中很不普通。
4、其后可接that從句，比較以下同義句型：
我不能來(lái)，覺得很遺憾。
正：I regret being unable to come.
正：I regret that I can’t come.
他后悔說(shuō)了那樣的話。
正：He regretted having said that.
正：He regretted that he had said that.
