考研英語長難句突破

　　【析句】 本句的主干是International affiliates account for a fast-growing segment of production in economies，后面的that open up and welcome foreign investment是economies的定語從句。

　　【講詞】 affiliate是名詞，意為“分支機構”，此處指在世界各地設有分公司的跨國（國際）公司。

　　account for意為“解釋；說明”。How do you account for all the accidents in series?（你怎么解釋這接二連三地發(fā)生的事故呢?）I want you to account for each sum of the money you spent.（我要你說明你所花掉的每一筆錢的用途。）account for在句中表示“解釋……原因”。

　　national businessmen譯成“國家的商人”會讓人不知所云，懷疑是不是“官商”，但實際是指民族資本家。

　　【講詞】 vs.是versus的簡寫形式，一般表示“對比，比較”。例如：freedom of information versus invasion of privacy（信息自由與侵犯私權），restriction versus opposition to restriction（限制與反限制相對）。在體育比賽中，versus表示“對抗”，China versus Japan（中國對日本）。在法律中，versus表示“對簿公堂”， the plaintiff versus the defendant（原告對被告）。
