詞匯問題在四六級作文中，詞匯量不足是影響成績的一個重要因。很多考生由于基本詞匯量極為有限，很難表達清楚自己的觀點；而有部分考生，有一定的詞匯量，卻依然無法過寫作“詞匯關(guān)”，主要有以下幾大問題：
1．拼寫錯誤
正確的詞形是表達語言的基礎(chǔ)，在書面表達中，“拼寫”是語言準確性的首要體現(xiàn)。英語是拼音文字，是由若干字母按一定的順序排列而成的，多一個字母或少一個字母甚或是把字母順序?qū)戭嵉沽司蜁鲥e或?qū)懗蓜e的單詞。在四六級作文中，很多考生會將以下單詞拼錯：如把though寫成through；把mental寫成metal；把colleague寫成 college；把explanation誤拼成 explaination等。詞匯拼寫取決于考生平時單詞基本功是否過關(guān)，別無捷徑，唯有認真背單詞。
2．用詞不當

例二：Therefore，we shall attach great importance about this question.（attach great importance about 應為 attach great importance to）
基本語法問題
寫作方面，基本語法層面的問題依然層出不窮。例如：無法保持時態(tài)在全文的一致，這一現(xiàn)象很普遍，往往是緊接的兩句，在沒有任何時間狀語的情況之下，就出現(xiàn)了時態(tài)的不一致；還有現(xiàn)在進行時不加ing；一般現(xiàn)在時第三人稱單數(shù)問題；情態(tài)動詞之后，動詞反而不用原形等等。很多考生缺乏基本的語法意識，作文中常犯的語法錯誤除了時態(tài)錯誤，還包括冠詞錯誤、名詞和動詞單復數(shù)錯誤、代詞不一致錯誤、詞性錯誤以及句子主謂不完整錯誤等等。
缺乏邏輯性
