　　we are now faced with a very important problem, that is, the rapid increasing pres sure of population on land, or rather, on land resources. most people consider it a serious problem because land resources are limited. however, we need not to be pessimistic about it.

　　although land has long been the main source for our food supply, it is not the only one. we have vast sea areas in the world waiting to be cultivated and developed. fish farming is playing a more and more important role in providing us with food. in the fu ture we can sow fish and plants in the sea and harvest them.

　　another thing we can do is to develop new strains. many scientists have achieved good resuhs in this field. for examaple, a kind of new strain of com invented by ameri can scientists has already produced more grain and mused an enormous world increase in food production. it is certain that further research work should be done to produce higher yield.

　　另一解決辦法是開發(fā)新的物種。許多科學(xué)家在這個(gè)領(lǐng)域中已經(jīng)取得了很好的`成績(jī)。譬如美國(guó)科學(xué)家發(fā)明的一種玉米新品種，已經(jīng)使糧食大大增產(chǎn)，并且使世界食品生產(chǎn)有顯著增長(zhǎng)。為了生產(chǎn)更多的糧食，還要做進(jìn)一步的研究工作。
